Parthenon was established in the summer of 1976 when a couple of visionary entrepreneurs saw the need for an institution that would offer private education in the island of Cozumel. A journey that begun with only three students at a rental house has consolidated throughout the years to become a fully integrated educational system and today carries its institutional learning goals through its offering of kinder garden, elementary, middle school, high school and university levels. Parthenon not only has been a pioneer of private and bilingual education but it has also become one of the most complete academic offerings in the southwest of Mexico. Parthenon counts with two campuses in the island of Cozumel. The first campus, located in the northern part of town is home to the Parthenon Institute with the kinder garden, elementary and middle school levels. The kinder and elementary levels are fully bilingual (Spanish-English) while middle school continues reinforcing the students’ abilities of the English language with daily classes as part of the academic course work. All the levels at this campus are recognized and accredited by the Secretaria de educación y Cultura del Estado de Quintana Roo (The Office of Education and Culture of the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico). The second campus, an on-going project, located two miles away, in the new development area of the city, houses the Parthenon University of Cozumel and its High School. Both, the High School and the University are recognized and accredited by UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico) the largest and most prestigious university system in Latin America. In addition to the regular programs, Parthenon University offers seminars, workshops and graduate certificate programs through its Department of Continuing Education to businesses and government organizations. Furthermore, the International Program Department offers High School and University students the opportunity to immerse into a multicultural experience in a foreign country. The Parthenon’s philosophy is to prepare students as a whole; with intellectual, moral, physical and social capabilities; committed with their community; who respect and make respect the law and distinguish themselves through high moral values and ethical standards.
